Exploratory Movement for Yoga

Brad's "Exploratory Movement" class is an integration of correct biomechanics of the body based in energy flow as well as physical kinesiology. Based in the ancient yoga shastras the class follow the correct motif the texts expound upon. Each class is based upon what each individual in the class needs for their unique circumstances regarding their body posture, mind, energy, and injury and/or limitations. Furthermore, the class is in attunement for the season, time of day, cycle of the moon and planetary constructs as well as balancing the 5 pranas of the body to create health.

His style is eclectic, based on natural or functional biomechanical and energetic movement of the human body but throwing into the mix many other modalities. Taking his cueing from Ayurveda, ancient texts of yoga, kinesthetic imagery, functional anatomy, different Asian arts, and a love of movement and energetics he unwinds your body in an expansive way rather than contracting your musculature and energy inward. The response is a delightful centering of your body on its gravity line to further your movement with a fluidity and ease. The class is safe for the injured and useful for therapy as well as being easy enough for the beginner but also challenging enough for the advanced.

Exploratory Movement for Yoga

Exploratory Movement for yog is a class that is not your ordinary yog class. First, it is based off of whomever is in the class and their bodies needs as well as the students desires. For example if you wanted to deal with a nagging hip problem, you tell Brad and this will be woven into the class. If you wanted to break down how to do an certain asana properly, this too would be woven into the class. Second, the class is based off of Brad’s studies of the ancient texts of Yoga and Ayurveda. Bringing this knowledge to the class, it is a class that balances you and is organized in the precepts of yog as to how a practice is pieced together. Thirdly Brad brings his 20 years of studying the body in movement, sports, training, bodywork, bodybuilding, kinesthetic imagery, as well as his teaching of anatomy and physiology to this class.

First, a balancing of energy. Yogasan is foundationally about balancing the 5 Pranas of the body. This is coupled by balancing your own dosha. It is not about a work out. That comes as a side benefit. Second, a centering of the physical body working from small movements to large, blending in biomechanical precision of how the body is supposed to move. This creates ease and an opening then to make larger movements. The end result is your core strengthening and the outer body lengthening and relaxing. Third, the body is now open to do asana. Using precise movement once again in asana you will open to a deeper expression of your practice. Fourth, Pulling everything back together and creating a stability and centering within your system. After Sunday’s class is over, Brad tends to offer to other to join him in his Pranayam and Meditation practice.

Exploratory Movement class balances your body mind and soul. your core is strengthened as your outer body is released, injuries will disappear, sometimes just after one class. More to the point you will learn about your body and be empowered to heal yourself. You will float out of the class feeling more alive and more centered and grounded. You never know what is going to come of this class as it is always different so bring your mat and a sense of adventure to move into unexplored realms of your body as well as your thoughts on yog.
